First-generation college students come from families where neither parent nor guardian has a four-year degree from a college or university. Here at OSU, these students make up 20-25% of the student population. Attending college as a first-generation student is a new, exciting experience that also comes with various challenges.
Oklahoma State has many resources that provide support for first generation students. Many programs that exist involve mentorship, creating comprehensive models of support and building community amongst first-generation students.
Giving to first-generation student programs ensures that these students are always supported, encouraged, and able to continue their education to eventually wear the orange and white banner proudly at graduation.
