The Achafoa Chapter of Mortar Board is participating in OSU’s Give Orange initiative this year to request support from our alumni so that we may continue the traditions we hold close. As a senior honor society, we recognize and celebrate the qualities of superior scholastic ability, outstanding and continual leadership, and dedicated service to the university and community.
We are requesting funds to aid in our efforts to execute our annual programming, which includes the selection and recognition of the Top Twenty and Top Ten Freshmen Men and Women. This recognition program is one we have overseen for years and includes multiple elements such as public tapping with a rose, reception, and plaque presentation, and an on-field announcement during an OSU football game. This process has increased in cost over time and in recent years, the chapter has had to cut back on the amount of recognition this award receives by not hosting a public reception.
Historically the cost of this program has been supported through the sale of a paper calendar, the Mortar Board, but calendar sales in recent years have declined, resulting in limited funds to cover all of the chapter’s programming needs. Each year we sell the calendars to the student body, but as everything is transferring to a digital format, our yearly fundraiser is not producing as much money as we hope. Without additional funding support, the chapter will have to continue to scale back its programming efforts. The membership is working to identify additional sources of income beyond the calendar sales, but at this time are also requesting additional support from others.
When you support Mortar Board, you help shape the future for Oklahoma State University. By contributing during Give Orange, you make our future a brighter orange!
