The Fire Protection Society is one of OSU’s oldest continuously functioning student organizations on campus since 1937.
The students are entrusted with the care and operation of OSU's Antique Fire Apparatus, the 1927 Ahrens Fox and the 1951 American LaFrance. These vehicles are a significant part of OSU’s history and legacy.
Back in the 1960’s, the 1927 Ahrens Fox was on the football field for home games and would drive cheerleaders and pom members around the old Lewis Field. In the mid 2000s and 2010s, The fire trucks were used in “The Walk” before football games to add to the celebration and carry the cheerleader’s backpacks. Over the years, students and alumni have kept these trucks running and have slowly restored the 1927 Ahrens Fox to its near-original condition, although there is more work to do.
Not only do our current student members take pride in those trucks, but our alumni also love to see them in parades and at events. During the homecoming parade every year, these trucks are used to carry the OSU Board of Regents down the parade line.
We are seeking funds for continued operation, maintentance, mechanical upgrades for the 1951 American LaFrance, and continued restoration of the 1927 Ahrens Fox.
