Who we are:
The Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History and the College Arts & Sciences Outreach.
What we are doing:
This is the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History's 4th year of offering a Summer Art Academy through A& S Outreach. Our high quality non credit art classes target junior high and high school students in and around Stillwater. In these classes, students will learn and apply many of the same concepts, technical skills, and design principles delivered during college level art classes. All of our caring and skilled teachers are OSU faculty members. Many Oklahoma students do not have the opportunity to take art classes in their junior highs or high schools. The Summer Art Academy gives these students the opportunity to explore the arts and personal creativity and allows more advanced students to build their portfolios, making them more competitive for scholarships.
Why we need your support:
During our first year, we found that many interested students were unable to afford the Summer Art Academy. For the last two years, we have successfully raised funds to support a tuition waiver program so that as many students as possible may benefit from this program. To date we have funded over 20 students, around 10 per year! Please help us continue making this successful program accessible to area students regardless of their ability to pay.
What we’ve done already:
We have applied for grants, and we’ve already reduced registration fees. However, even the lowered registration cost is beyond what some students can afford. We can’t lower the registration fee any further without sacrificing materials or the time needed to make real change. We need your help! Together, with your support, we can show area students we believe in their ability to transform their lives and make great art. Help us show them we believe art is important, and that a summer art experience can establish a foundation for a future in art.
