With the fall of the Afghan government in August of 2021, the US government, through Operation Welcome Allies, created an effort to welcome and support vulnerable Afghans, notably those who worked closely with the US government and/or military, or those who supported US efforts in Afghanistan. With the support from the Governor of Oklahoma, the state has welcomed over 1,800 displaced Afghans over the last 4 months through resettlement efforts with Catholic Charities.
Oklahoma State University has become a forefront partner with Catholic Charities to accommodate over 70 Afghans in Stillwater and provide services ranging from housing and English learning classes to employment and schooling. Many of our new neighbors here in Stillwater, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City are interested in continuing their degrees or pursuing higher education as part of their new chapter in Oklahoma. With support from the Oklahoma Regents of Higher Education, these Afghan refugees have been approved for in-state tuition at Oklahoma State University!
Make an immediate impact on these students' lives through a gift to the School of Global Studies & Partnerships Scholarship Fund that will go directly to supporting their tuition costs this fall.
